Remote Emergency Care 1 (REC 1)
This 1 day practical course, taught by a registered Nurse, is suitable for those who participate in and lead sports and remote outdoor activities. You will gain a basic level of confidence as a first responder.
You will learn the basic principles of treating injury and illness in the remote or outdoor setting, how to deal with emergency medical situations as they unfold, and practice lifesaving and life preserving techniques through realistic, 'hands-on' scenarios.
We teach you to use your limited first aid kit in innovative ways, and we improvise with other items you are likely to have at hand.
Particularly suited to sports clubs; rugby, tennis, football etc, this course is tailored to common injuries which occur in different sports, and can include common paediatric conditions if required. CPR (adult and child) and the use of an automatic external defibrillator for cardiac arrest is also included.
Course certificates are valid for 2 years.
Course content includes:
- Accident assessment
- Dealing with emergency situations
- Dealing with unconscious casualties
- Basic life support & AED use
- Concussion awareness
- Choking and breathing problems
- Treating serious bleeding and treatment of shock
- Fractures, sprains, dislocations
- Common medical emergencies, including asthma, diabetes
- Burns and scalds
- How to use contents of common first aid kits.
Certification
On successful completion of the course, candidates will receive a Remote Emergency Care (REC 1) certificate, which is valid for 2 years.
