First Aid Training for Remote and Austere Environments

Joanna Peare is a Registered Nurse and educator with a special interest in emergency, expedition and travel medicine. Jo has lived and worked in remote locations and has experience in trauma and refugee care in Africa.

When Jo needed more flexibility around raising her children, she ran her own medical writing business, where she created evidence-based continuing medical education programmes for doctors and nurses, writing for websites such as MedScape.

These days, Jo feels very lucky to be able to combine her adventurous spirit with her love of teaching, by teaching first aid and advanced medical care to seafarers, and Remote Emergency Care courses to land-lovers and sailors throughout Ireland.

An accomplished sailor and Yachtmaster with over 30 years experience, Jo has sailed hundreds of nautical miles and has been faced with looking after casualties offshore on numerous occasions. As an experienced onboard medic, Jo has seen first hand, that emergencies in remote locations, require a difference approach. This experience informs Jo's teaching.

When Jo is not teaching she can be found paddle boarding, hill walking and playing tennis.

Her clients include sailors, rock climbers, hiking groups, youth development organisation and sports clubs.

She still works in a critical care area in a busy Dublin Hospital.
